Seriously. What an idiot. There is just absolutely no way something like that should happen. Ever.

[Feedback Wanted] Google Data Studio Template
BigDave replied to Mike Friedman's topic in Search Engine Optimization
I really like it, and if I ever figure out how to use Google Data Studio, I want to use this. Is it hard to set up or to edit if I want to change things? Can you change things or if you use someone's template are you stuck using it as is? ...and this just terrifies me. -
Rather ironic how it has evolved.

The Impact of COVID-19 on Social Media Marketing
BigDave replied to Krisvertelo's topic in Social Media Marketing
I don't know if it is pandemic specific, but the political landscape in the U.S. has had an impact on an ecommerce store I run. Specifically, the issues with the United States Post Office, and I'm a bit concerned with it going forward. Not trying to turn this into a political discussion, but with many of the changes the Trump administration has pushed there have definitely been slowdowns in shipping times. I say I do not know if it is pandemic specific because I would also imagine that due to the pandemic people are shopping from home more and the increase in shipments could also be part -
Google removed request indexing feature. Do you care?
BigDave replied to Chase26's topic in Search Engine Optimization
Do you guys really think there is a chance they are going to remove that option in Search Console? Seems like it is pretty popular. -
Google testing new fonts on search results
BigDave replied to Mike Friedman's topic in Search Engine Optimization
I never thought of that, but does Google Fonts really slow down pages much? -
It's crazy that people seem to have this deep rooted loyalty to something that none of us were alive for and lasted for about 4 1/2 years. Bell-bottoms lasted longer than The Confederacy.

I like it. I could see the music being a turnoff for some people, but I dig it. The animation is pretty slick.

Does that include the white flag they wave before the last lap?

I had kind of the same thoughts. I can see where Geru would be useful for proposals, but after that it loses it's value pretty quickly. Funnelytics you could still use for proposals in the same way, but then after the funnel is setup you have all that tracking available. It makes it really stand out.

I think it can be a ranking problem if your site's internal link structure and any external links you have are divided among two or more pages competing for the same keyword. What I think is wrong with the way most of the SEO people out there try to explain cannibalization is they way they say that search engines see multiple pages targeting the same search terms and ding them for it in some way. I guess my vote in the poll would depend on how you define "serious ranking problem".

Evaluating page experience for a better web
BigDave replied to Mike Friedman's topic in Search Engine Optimization
I really wonder how much any of this will have. They talked a lot about mobile designs. That had no impact. They talked a lot about page speed. That had little impact. Then it was SSL. That did nothing. I wonder how serious they are this time. -
I am about to do an interesting test
BigDave replied to Mike Friedman's topic in Search Engine Optimization
Please keep us updated how this goes. I know someone thinking about doing this. My guess is it won't impact your rankings much. It's basically the same as a business acquiring another one and when I have seen that happen there has not been a drop in rankings. -
I have been looking into some of the sales funnel predictive and tracking tools out there. I'm not interested in tools that create sales funnels like Click Funnels. I came across Funnelytics. It looks like a pretty good tool and I especially like how you can have it interact with your website and track your stats. While researching that, this tool Geru starting popping up in ads. They have a special going on right now with a one-time fee instead of a monthly fee like Funnelytics. The downside is it only predicts your funnel traffic based on numbers you put in. Once the funnel is set

Yes... Spartan is Gone... and Clicked is here
BigDave replied to Mike Friedman's topic in Clicked News
I gave it a week or so to settle in to the new layout. Just sort of let the initial shock go. Don't ever go back. Maybe some slight edits here and there, but I like the new color scheme, layout, and definitely the name. Much more unique. Better chance to stand out, IMO. Funny enough, that thought had never crossed my mind until you mentioned it, but another good reason to never go back to the old name. -
Quitting Amazon Affilate Marketing.
BigDave replied to mki's topic in Main Internet Marketing Discussion
This past week I actually went to WalMart's site to try to order a few things that were going to take 2-3 weeks for delivery through Amazon. What a shitty shopping experience compared to Amazon. Their site is just awful. No way you will get the same kind of conversions you do at Amazon. -

Quitting Amazon Affilate Marketing.
BigDave replied to mki's topic in Main Internet Marketing Discussion
This whole thing was barely a blip in the news cycle. I'm sure it was not a off the cuff decision and something that had been planned long ago, but they could not have asked for a better climate to make this update in. It barely made the news outside of online marketing groups, who were obviously most directly impacted. For a lot of niches, I still feel like Amazon is the best option just because of their conversion rate and the fact that they will pay on anything that a visitor buys, not just a specific product. I saw a few tech channels that seemed like they were doing a few more links -
I am by no means an expert on this, but I really have not heard many people talking about this in the past few months. It feels like things kind of rolled back closer to where they were before the big updates.

Didn't feel like this fit in any of the other categories, but if a mod wants to move it, please do... For those of you U.S based, how do you handle your taxes when it comes to your online business? Are you still doing them yourself? If you have someone else handling them, do you find it to be a big benefit? I'm growing, but I still do the taxes myself. Honestly, the business is not that complex. I don't have employees. It's basically just revenue offset by expenses. Doing the taxes is not that hard for me or time consuming. Maybe I am missing something that an accountant

I guess we have reached that point where cast members from the OT are going to be leaving us, although Mark and Harrison seem to be going strong. James Earl Jones has to be getting up there. Probably mid-80's now.

A2 Hosting and Why You Need a Backup Plan
BigDave replied to Mike Friedman's topic in Main Internet Marketing Discussion
Loved A2 Hosting. Used them for a couple of years on one site. Unfortunately, it was impacted by this event. I took it down and moved it to Siteground now. I won't use them ever again after this.
