Photo Gallery for WP site

Okay - I need to know if anyone with WP has set up a photo gallery on it?  I got User Photogallery, and it's not working the way I want it to.  There's one that you need to have buddy press installed for, and it's the only thing I'd use buddy press for, so maybe not a good idea? I'm not sure if you can just use the one function or if you'd have the whole buddy press thing operating.

What is wrong with this photo gallery is that the main page is fine - thumbnails of pics - drop down menu to specific categories -- but if you click a specific drop down in the category, you don't get a thumbnail list of just that category - you get a list of pic titles instead with no thumbnail showing.

Does anyone know how to fix this or know of a different free gallery that might do the trick?

The attraction to this one for me is that anyone can upload a pic yet it won't show until approved - so it's easy for users, and I don't end up with spam on the site.

Arrrggghhhhhh - I've spent a whole day trying to figure this out.  Any suggestions?

SEOPress WordPress SEO plugin

I've been looking over the ones on WP.org.   I'm going to try out Photosmash next. It looks good but it might be too tech intensive for me.  If I have to do stuff like write short codes to get things to work, that's not going to work for me.

I was hoping someone in here might be using one that they already know is good and non-tech user friendly to refer me to since there's only around a million and one of them to have to sort through and try out.  It's a nightmare sorting through these things - especially since the explanations are sometimes so damned vague.  If I were tech oriented, this wouldn't be such a time consuming and frustrating thing.

I just downloaded Photosmash. I'm reading through the directions getting a feel for what it does........and I think I'm going to like this one.  Anyone ever use it?

Thanks Sal!

I didn't know this one existed.  I just read through it, I'm going to install it today and mess with it.  From what I see, it will give my sites and my client's sites a much better look to their galleries than the usual "gallery" option.

I haven't had time to mess with it yet, but it looks like what I need, too.  I'm still waiting for an answer to my support request from the last one. That doesn't sit well with me. At all.   Anyhow - later today I'll be checking it out.  It looks like the one I'll keep so far.

If I get stuck, I'll email ya for some help figuring it out.

YAY - I got the User Photo Gallery to work the way I wanted it to.  It was so amazingly simple I could kick myself for not having figured it out sooner.  Oh well, that's life online for a non-techie.  I'm sure that techs who are not writers feel the same frustrations in reverse.

Anyway - here's a short review of what I found.

Photosmash is a nightmare for anyone who is not a tech.  A lot of the other galleries don't have the ability to allow users to upload photos. In the gallery I have (User Photo Gallery) I get to approve all photos before they show, too - so no worries over someone getting in and posting a lot of porn or irrelevant crap. I can make multiple galleries and put them in the top menu on my theme in a drop down menu under the main gallery button.  Warning - it may take some trial and error for a non-tech like me to figure it out but once you do, this is a very versatile little plugin.  And it's free!  I'm really happy I found it now, even though it put me through some mental changes figuring it out.
