What does he mean when he uses words!?

In a sadly hilarious moment of frustration, a talking head recently asked this question about a certain politician:  "What does he mean when he says words!?"  The question stuck with me, and I have been researching and exploring the idea of how to really convey what the characters in my fiction mean vs. what they say.

In that research, I stumbled upon a moment of human greatness:

All I can say is, Wow!

I've always known that words are very powerful things, they can break and tear down a person's spirit, security, self worth, self esteem, faith and trust. And that they can make or build up a person's confidence, spirit, faith, self worth, self esteem and trust.

But never once, have I ever even thought to imagine a world where a person couldn't express themselves with their words. They suffer a tremendous loss of or lack of a power source. It does give you a different perspective, doesn't it?

A toast...Here's to words, to making them count, each and every one of them. Whether spoken or written.
