Something for the climate denialist brigade to ponder

Following is what the CEO of BHP had to say at a conference in London recently. First though, for those who're unaware, some information about BHP.

BHP, headquartered in Melbourne, is the world's biggest diversified resources group. It has four main operational units:

  • Coal
  • Copper
  • Iron ore
  • Petroleum

In other words it is a major supplier of fossil fuels. Anyway here's what he had to say:

I've no doubt shit for brains will be here shortly when he's finished his job of deleting posts at the Warrior Forum that prove what a cretin he is to post all sorts of links he thinks debunk this, but in reality do nothing of the sort, before he adds an emoji to the end of it as a signal to his legion of fans how cool and clever he is.

None of this matters. Beliefs that were not arrived at by reasoning, can't be changed by using reason.

At least a third of the US ignores climate science.

Half of the US doesn't know if the Sun revolves around the Earth, or the Earth revolves around the Sun. Half don't know it takes a year. 25% definitely believe the Sun goes around the Earth. Only 50% know that the Earth revolves around the Sun, the Moon revolves around the Earth, and it takes a year to go around the Sun. I'm talking about adults...who have the right to vote...not toddlers.

Less than half of the adults in the US think evolution is a real thing.

2% of adults in the US think the Earth is flat.

I cannot wait for the eternal oblivion that is the only release from these idiots.

Haven't you heard the news. Britain has just said, "Hold my beer" to America.

it's the end. Boris (No Deal) Johnson has taken over. Two idiots running a chunk of the show. Thing is, in the UK, the alternative party that could get in after the next election would be even more disastrous given it's leader.

No matter who gets in after BoJo, they're going to have a big shit sandwich to deal with.

I wonder what Her Maj thinks about all this? I wouldn't like to be one of the Palace's corgis right now.

Hopefully he will trip over one and split his head open on their weekly get together.

Thing is, that it will only be a disaster for those from the Home Counties, Eton schoolboys, the south of England, the banksters from The City and all the inbred twats who've ripped the guts out of British society and profited wildly while doing it. Ask someone from the North (such as Yorkshire where I hail from), Scotland, Wales and many other parts of that sceptred isle, and they'll tell you that Jezza will be a godsend. Someone who will give the wankers from the south a taste of what they've dished out to the rest of the country for the last 4 decades.

I support him fully in that task.

I despise Corbyn and what he represents.  He's steeped in the 60's/70's Socialist mentalities, very Left Wing. I learned a long time ago, in politics, Viva La Balance. There are good idea's on both sides.  No chance of a balance if he gets in.

And even less with BoJo. Over the last 4 decades Britain has moved further and further to the right. That's why it needs a generous dose of left to bring it back towards the centre. The "Middle Path" is just naked neo-liberalism with a few social justice policies tacked on for appearances.

Aside from perhaps smirking a bit as he taxes the well off a bit more, everything else he represents has gone the way of the DODO. My friend was a Labor party member (Wimbledon) in the 80's, he allowed them to meet at his house. (I was living there paying rent) Quite Literally they were all going around calling each other Comrade

They allowed these people who are still like this to participate in voting him in as leader. Big mistake in making your Party irrelevant and non-electable. .

Jeremy Corbyn's never going to be PM, and if you think people up north see him as some kind of saviour then I think you're living in about 2015. They'd rather vote Brexit Party or Lib Dems than Labour.

Mark was the one who said he was likely to become PM. If the latest polling is anything to go by (yeah, I know), the SNP will hold more seats in parliament than any other. And yes, I fully understand why the majority of people in the north (well, those that actually got off their arses and voted) for Brexit on the referendum. Whether that translates into votes for Farage's mob at a general election is another matter. Whatever the outcome, for better or worse, the United Kingdom is never going to be the same.

It's not "my" party. I don't live in the UK, remember?

Who should they have elected as leader? Another Blairite who is only in Labour because they didn't go to the right school in order to join the Tories? Perhaps a tousle haired buffoon who will become, sorry - already is an international laughing stock?

Anyway, Corbyn, Bernie Sanders, Trump, Farage and a host of others on both the left and right are all part of a growing trend towards nationalist populism sweeping the developed world as a backlash against the neo-liberal, globalist agenda. Globalism may well have lifted people out of poverty in 3rd world countries, but it's driven millions into poverty in developed countries (think the industrial wastelands of the north of England, the rust belt in America and so on).

This so-called "middle ground" has failed the general population and benefited only the top end of town and the politicians themselves. Politicians act for and on behalf of whoever pays for their election campaigns. The interests of big money are never in the best interests of the general population.

The privatisation of formerly state owned assets is one of the contributing factors, in the UK and here in Australia too. We were promised that private enterprise would deliver better service at a lower cost. The exact opposite has occurred. Costs continue to spiral upwards at the same time as service levels have gone in the opposite direction. While they were under state ownership these entities had the objective of providing the service(s) at a reasonable cost. If they actually lost money, that was acceptable, as long as the trains kept running, the lights were turned on, etc. Once privatised these assets had a completely different objective - to make money for their new owners, hence unprofitable arms of the business were shut down, and the costs were increased. If they didn't do this the businesses would've gone tits up and have to be bailed out by taxpayers, or re-nationalised at "market rates" (ie a lot more than the state got for selling them off in the first place).

At the same time this was happening, the CEOs and executive class continued to award themselves outlandish salaries. It's passing strange how the workforce are told that their pay and conditions have to be slashed to provide them with the incentive to work harder. The executive class however argue that they need to be paid more to provide them with the incentive to work harder. Sometimes they state these things in the same sentence.

Anyway, with all this going on it's easy to see why "leaders" on both the far left and the far right gain popularity with the masses. There are parallels throughout history with the times we're living in now. Think France in 1789. Russia in 1916/7. Germany in the 1920's. A whole lot of pain for the people, and in the case of Germany and Russia, the cure was actually worse than the ailment.

We shall see what happens this time. To paraphrase the old Chinese proverb. "We live in interesting times".

It's just reached 41.7 degrees Celsius in The Netherlands. That country's hottest temperature on record.

Last month was the hottest June on record globally and in the US. Last year was the hottest year on record.

But it's just fake news. Every thermometer was set to make us think it's hot when it's really cooler. And every meteorologist in the world is in on the scam.
